Annotation: The current state of the system of social protection and provision of social services is considered from the position of sociological analysis. The necessity of transformation of forms and methods of providing social services to the population is noted. The existing level of quality of social services is described as satisfactory, problem points in the development of social assistance system are defined, and possible directions of their solution are given.
