Annotation: The author explores the problem of maintaining the population of the border territories of the Russian Federation in the face of great challenges and in the context of the current political situation. Based on official statistics, a comparative analysis of the demographic well-being of the border territories of the Northwestern Federal District is carried out, on the basis of which the regions with the greatest risks of loss, in particular due to migration outflow, of the population, are identified.
